Dorking RFC Women vs Worthing Women,

League game (away), 22/9/24

10 - 61

Our second league game, this time away on the south coast at Rugby Park in Worthing.

With our N3 game cancelled, we were able to bolster to maximum capacity the squad travelling down. This equally gave opportunities to new and emerging players.

Worthing are definitely a forwards team. Pick and go, advancing up the middle was their modus operandi. Which, for periods of the game proved effective; given their close support at the breakdown and the robustness of their strike runners. We struggled somewhat to match this style of play. Whilst we contained most of their attacks, it was clear we had to get on the front foot and play to our strengths. Which, when we did, was the game changer. Worthing simply couldn’t match our speed out wide. We were able to keep drip feeding points throughout the first half. With a special mention going to a junior member of the squad. A forward who ran the entire pitch to score! Outstanding solo effort, proving it doesn't matter what the number is on your shirt for you to have a go.

At the break we were comfortably winning. It took 135 minutes to concede our first try of the season. Not a bad stat given that we put on the best part of 150 points on in the same time period. This try was closed followed up with another from Worthing. Both scored in the same corner, both from a short distance out. Following the game being stopped due to a bad injury to one of our players, the game was called early by the opposition with 15 minutes still to go.

Worthings first team pitch is known to be unforgiving on the body. Injuries were piling up on both sides and the score was north of 50 points against them. Understandable, but

frustrating given our fitness was now in the ascendancy; we felt our momentum was worth more points.

Another team performance. 5 different scores, scoring 9 tries in total, with 8 conversions.
