Goals are individualised and due to the commitment of the coaches, players are welcomed to develop towards their own personal goals during the season. As we all know Rugby is a late maturation sport and with this players are not just taught physical aspects of rugby, but the general skills and personal goals are taken into account.
This becomes their individual development programme for progression and helps improve their rugby skills and fitness. The programme is measured on a three-month basis over the season, to check how they are progressing against their goals and, as they are achieved, new targets are set for them.
Age group training continues on Sundays for players, and they are aided by coaching from first-team players. The emphasis is on how Dorking RFC play their fixtures, which assists the youth players’ progression to senior rugby and the U21’s fixtures. For the coming season ALL youth rugby from U12- U18 have a Senior player linked to their age group (Tom Beal, Dan Bishop, Jake Dobson, George Spreckley & Killian Wilson), whilst some guest sessions are provided by other players.
Alongside the normal training the club have welcomed guest sessions during the year from MOGGSY (Ex-England Womens Scrum Coach), Karl Dickson (Premiership Referee & Ex Harlequins Scrum-Half) & Ben Sheath (Head of Strength & Conditioning for Saracens Academy).
