The May Bank Holiday now brings with it the culmination of the season at Dorking RFC, with weary
parents and children emerging from their tents at DorKamp and 7s teams arriving for the 3 rd edition
of the Dorking RFC Annual 7s.

Sunday May 5 th opened with beautiful blue skies and optimism in the air for a cracking tournament
ahead, this year saw the first inclusion of ladies 7s on the schedule, with 6 teams including our own
Dorking Women’s, battling it out alongside the Men’s Open, which also featured a Dorking Dynamos
side bolstered by present and recently graduated Colts.

Fortunately the weather remained for the entirety of the day, a stark change versus the previous
week and what the Teams who had taken part in the ironically named ‘Sunshine Sevens’!
A packed schedule kicked off at 11am with a total of 36 matches across the Men’s and Women’s
tournament, group stages followed by knockouts for advancing teams.

And so, the action, where the final standings in Group A were:

Group B featured our own Dorking Dynamos who after a slow start pulled together some great
performances:

Advancing to the Main Cup semi-finals were reigning champions Akuma Beavers Purple vs Akuma
Beavers Pink and then Eggchaser 7s vs Esher 7s.
The Plate featured Dorking vs Oxford Buffaloes and Marauders vs NZ Baddies the reigiing Plate
winners.
The Women’s group standings were, Group A:

And Group B with Dorking Women’s putting on a show on debut but coming unstuck against some
great opposition:

The Women’s Cup semi-finals was another all-Akuma Beaver affair and then Eggchaser Women’s vs
Marauders Women’s.
The Women’s plate the featured Dorking vs SL Crabbitohs, with a just a couple of scores separating
the Teams but SL Crabbitohs coming out on top.

The knock-out matches didn’t disappoint, firstly in the Women’s Cup Akuma Beaver’s Pink won the
inter-club battle to advance against the Eggchaser Women’s side.
In the Men’s Eggchaser continued their strong form to advance vs Akuma Beavers Pink in the Cup
Final and our own Dorking Dynamos saved their best for the cup matches to advance to the Plate
Final vs Marauders.
The Final’s were a great reflection on a fantastic tournament, with great rugby played throughout,
the final results were:
Akuma Beavers Pink Women’s came out on top n the Women’s Cup 22-7 vs Eggchaser Women’s
Dorking Dynamos overcame Marauders 31-21 in the Plate Final
Eggchaser 7s proved the strongest of the Men’s with an emphatic 31-0 over Akuma Pink Men’s

Special thanks to the referees from Surrey Rugby who supported us on the day and to all the teams
who took part and stuck around to enjoy a few cold ones in the sun after the rugby had finished.
Once again, the 7s was a well-oiled machine with numerous volunteers who helped organise, set-up
pitches, managed parking, manage registration/scoring and clear up after play had finished, thank
you to all those who gave up time to support in the build up and on the day.

Roll on next year where we hope to build again with version 4 of the Dorking Annual 7s!
