Corkham vs Old Reigations
Final score: Corkham 24–15 Old Reigations
Corkham produced a fantastic team performance to secure a well-deserved 24–15 victory over Old Reigations.
With low player numbers on the day, the game was played with uncontested scrums, but this did nothing to reduce the intensity or quality of the match.
Old Reigations started strongly, scoring first with a crash ball to take a 5–0 lead. Corkham responded brilliantly, with Alicia Targett making a strong crash ball and helping Corkham build the pressure needed to bring the score level at 5–5.
Ellie Gravett then made her mark with a score to put Corkham ahead 7–5, before Old Reigations responded to regain the lead at 10–7.
Corkham continued to apply pressure, with Livvy Heppenstall making a fantastic carry, finding space on the wing and taking the ball deep into Old Reigations territory. A great set play followed, showing excellent organisation and teamwork from the Corkham side.
At the breakdown, Imogen McKnight was outstanding, producing an excellent jackal and competing fiercely for possession. Her work at the breakdown helped Corkham regain momentum and keep the pressure on.
Siena White then crossed for a score to put Corkham back in front at 12–10, before Ellie Gravett added another score to make it 14–10.
Corkham’s defence was particularly impressive. Bonnie Thomas produced a brilliant tackle, while Skye Curtis put in a huge tackle to stop an Old Reigations attack. Despite the defensive effort, Old Reigations managed to score and briefly moved back in front at 15–14.
Corkham showed fantastic resilience and immediately responded. Siena White made a superb tackle before intercepting the ball and making a brilliant run. She then produced an excellent offload to Alys Ozturk, who finished the move with a well-earned score. Ellie narrowly missed the conversion, leaving Corkham ahead 19–15.
After the restart, Corkham knocked the ball on but immediately fought back. Bonnie Thomas showed fantastic determination to rip the ball back, keeping Corkham on the front foot.
Sophie Daniels then made a powerful carry, gaining valuable ground, while Ella Ward showed excellent pace and quick decision-making at scrum-half to keep the ball moving quickly.
As the game entered its final stages, Corkham produced some fantastic quick attacking rugby. Skye Curtis capped off the performance with another score to make it 24–15 and secure the win.
It was a brilliant squad performance, with everyone contributing to the result.
Corkham v Wimbledon
Final score: Corkham 0 –41 Wimbledon
In an afternoon of two halves corkham then came up against quins cup winners Wimbledon.
The opposition proved to be formidable with their brand of athletic speed and set piece play. And as coaches we couldn’t deny that there method of Rugby was both clinical and well-versed.
Coming up against a side in their first match together exposed a slight lack of confidence. However, when we did get possession, we played some very good phases of Rugby. And showed some fantastic defensive work with Chloe and Skye disrupting the attack attacking line.
Some great carries by Elise and Alicia. With Poppy Nell Flo and Evie rucking hard and relentlessly. And Amelie, Erin, Megan and Bonnie protecting the wings.
Despite this we were brutally penalised for allowing the oppo to get speed up and not completing our tackles.
Where we did tackle their ability to offload exposed is and they scored off this.
Congrats to Wimbledon.
