Dorking Colts delivered a definitive defensive masterclass to defeat Cobham 10-0 and claim the Quins Cup at the Stoop. In a game defined by fine margins and immense physicality, Dorking capped off a magnificent season by shutting out a formidable Cobham side that had remained undefeated since November and featured several stars from the Epsom College schools final team.
First Half: Dorking Blitz and the Defensive Wall
Dorking played with the wind at their backs in the first half, expertly using the conditions to dominate early territory and apply repeated pressure on the Cobham defense.
This relentless start paid dividends in the 7th minute. Following a Cobham infringement, Dorking played with a penalty advantage; a deft kick from Zac Moore nearly resulted in a spectacular try, but play was eventually brought back. Jack Haines stepped up and confidently slotted the three points to open the scoring.
Just seven minutes later, the Colts struck the decisive blow. Executing a brilliant set-piece play in the 14th minute, Ed Rhodes—making an immediate impact off the bench—latched onto a perfectly timed assist from Toby Shepherd to crash over the whitewash. Haines, who was immaculate from the kicking tee all day, added the conversion to establish a rapid 10-0 lead.
Despite this early blitz, Cobham's goal-line defense stiffened immensely, turning the rest of the half into a tight, physical arm-wrestle. The defending side managed to hold a surging Dorking attack up over the try line twice before the break, denying the Colts further reward for their territorial dominance.
Second Half: An Arm Wrestle
The second half evolved into a brutal, defensive stalemate. Cobham threw everything at Dorking in a desperate attempt to salvage their unbeaten season, but the Colts' defensive wall simply refused to yield. This heroic shutout marked Dorking's 7th clean sheet of the campaign.
Dorking continued to threaten on the counter and were held up over the line for a third time in the match. While the side will have felt they left a score or two out on the pitch, their suffocating defense ensured that their early 10-point buffer was more than enough to secure the victory.
A Season of Dominance
This cup win was the crowning achievement of a staggering 2025/26 campaign where the team was practically unbeatable.

● Throughout the year, Dorking and the Big Field proved to be a "graveyard" for quality, unbeaten teams, taking down Havant, Winchester, Wimbledon, TJs, and ultimately Cobham at the Stoop.
● The team successfully dethroned the defending National Cup champions (Rosslyn Park) and the defending Quins Cup champions (Guildford).
● They also topped the Surrey table and came within one blow of a whistle of reaching the National Cup Final.
● They finished the season with 15 wins from 17 competitive matches.
● They enjoyed an 11-match unbeaten streak spanning from October to March.
