Those of us who follow DRFC on social media, will recently have seen some great photos posted by Jake Dobson, of Amatori Rugby Torre Del Greco, a Naples based club founded in 1965 who play at Stadio Boscotrecase, at the foot of Mt Vesuvio.

Recently, Dorking RFC made a ball and kit donation to the club, and we’ve been delighted to see them putting them to great use!

The club has a thriving community.  Their senior men’s team (The Lions) currently sit at the top of the C1 National Division (Campania) with hopes of promotion to Serie B (National League) this year.  Their women’s team (The Lionesses) are now in their second season of competing in Serie A (The top national league in Italy).  They also have a thriving youth rugby group of u10 mixed, u12 mixed, u14s girls and boys, u16 girls and boy and a boys u18 team.

Amatori Rugby Torre Del Greco is a real family-centric club that epitomises the ‘one club’ ethos – something we at Dorking strongly endorse!  All players are expected to help out with game day preparation, whether that is coaching/officiating, cooking in the kitchens, setting up the pitch or serving refreshments post game.  They are committed to spreading the ethics of rugby, they have formed a partnership with a large number of local schools, where they provide a weekly rugby programme focused on teamwork and mass participation. The club also provides support to orphaned children or those with a difficult home life. For these children in particular members of the club provide a taxi service so that they can travel to and from the camp for both rugby and social events, as well as provide them with training equipment.

A proportion of the shirts provided by DRFC have been used to kit out the children participating in these programmes, meaning that their first experience of rugby was in the red and white of Dorking!  The club would like to extend their thanks to Dorking RFC for the shirts and equipment provided which has allowed them to continue to strive whilst maintaining their beliefs of family and mass inclusion. They are very grateful for the partnership and would like to extend a warm welcome to any future visitors to Torre Del Greco.

Dorking RFC is proud to be associated with Amatori Rugby Torre Del Greco and wish them the very, very best for the season ahead!
