The 1st XV notched up a second successive victory on Saturday, earning a 21-14 three-try victory away to Colchester.
The results have pleased Director of Rugby Armand Roux, who said: “We were full of confidence ahead of the Colchester match but we knew it would be a tough one for us on the road.
“Objective number one was to get the W, no matter how ugly it looked. We looked to find a weakness and exploit it.”
Which was easier said than done against Essex opposition who had narrowly lost both previous games.
“To be fair to Colchester,” said Roux, “there were not many weaknesses, but we felt our defence could easily keep them at bay and we got there in the end.”
Playing against the wind first half, a simple defensive error gifted Colchester an early try but Dorking fought back with tries from Joseph Mogaji and skipper Matt Noble who converted both to go into break 14-7 up.
With the wind in their favour second half, a training ground middle scrum move saw Adam Worth execute a scissors move for full back Ed Carne to score a third try early in second half and edge ahead 21-7.
For the final 20 minutes Dorking had to absorb Colchester pressure.
“The boys tackled fearlessly and defended with lots of passion and discipline,” said Roux.
Dorking were unlucky when a charge down led to a wicked bounce which allowed Colchester to score and trail by just 7 points.
With a possible result in site, Colchester threw everything at Dorking but the Cocks’ defensive wall held firm.
Roux added: “Lots of credit goes to the way the lads defended and the character they showed. It was really great to see. Senior players knew what to do, and younger ones stepped up to the plate. I’m very pleased to get 4 points on the road, especially against Colchester who are a good side which is not reflected in their position in the table.”
